Rpg format
Last night I spoke to a member of this rpg who had considerable frustration with the current tapering-comment journal post layout. She said making a LJ community for our rpg, which apparently you can set for a single-line thread, with newest posts first, would be less confusing for her. I then spoke to another member of this rpg who has no difficulty with the current layout. I decided the fairest thing would be to put this up to a democratic vote among the four of us.

Poll #1482581 RPG Format
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 8

What is the rpg format that you would prefer we use for the Slayers: A New Life rpg, beginning December 2009?

View Answers

Current: A member's journal hosts the posts.
6 (75.0%)

New: We make a community, choose a moderator, and post to the community.
2 (25.0%)

I am also opening the floor for discussion of why you voted the way you did, IF you wish.

Let's please resolve this quickly. I personally was having no trouble with the layout, aside the volume of emails I received per night with replies, but I don't want to disregard problems anyone is having. I just don't have time for fixing things, so if things need to be fixed, I'd like to know if that's the majority vote in a timely manner. We're a small friendly group so this really shouldn't take too long.

Um, I think I've (hopefully) figured out the current format. I suppose the thing that I like about the current format is that the starting posts are at the top and the action progresses in the same direction as the direction of reading the posts.
All that confuses me is the turn order, but I think, I hope, that I have grasped that...
On the other hand, I am sure that if a new format is preferred, I can figure that out!
Thank you, have a good day! Good luck!

I'm totally cool with the current format myself. I think everything works fine the way it is.

The only difference between hosting the rp in a member journal or a community is the posts won't taper as they get lower in the thread. It would be more uniform and easier to read, but it wouldn't make any difference in the gameplay -- one player is still going to have to incorporate three other players no matter where it happens. A community won't change that. I also don't see how newest being first or last makes a difference -- it's just a matter of either having to scroll down to read or not, no big deal. ^^;

But a community would be fine with me if that's what everyone prefers. The only one really big problem I can see with a community set up is that it would allow for comments on individual reply posts. Post comments are fun in individual character journals where the action is mainly one-on-one, but not only do they defeat the purpose in a multi-player rp -- they could potentially derail the rp entirely in a community set up.

Example: I post as Fibrizo. I receive an ic comment from another character commenting on what he said/thinks. Fibrizo replies. Other character replies and so on. Eventually there are tons of replies for this one rp post, taking time from the rp and slowing it down.

Now do this with every post made and the main rp becomes muddled and lost in a sea of replies and eventually it will be derailed -- believe me, I've seen rp's derailed over less lol. @.@ And that is a big concern to me because I love this rp and I love what we have created with it. It's fun and creative and I think it has loads of potential. It's a good thing so forgive me if I'm being a little too protective of it -- I just don't want to see it die out like this.

Anyway, it sounds more like we need time and practice getting used to having four players with multiple characters. It can be overwhelming having to incorporate other players when you're used to a one-on-one set up, but it gets easier with time. It just takes practice and patience. :3

So that's my input! I don't see how a community would make things any different/easier, but I am willing to go with it if that's what we decide. Whatever works and keeps things running smoothly so everyone is happy and having fun. ^^

Yes, actually I'm coming across that issue at an InuYasha rp thread. I'm Sesshoumaru there with people playing as Rin, Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango, all separate people LOL and yes it's tiresome having to keep track of who said what to whom. Sometimes we even have to quote the reply we're responding to, it's so confusing XD;;;;

I was sort of sitting the fence but I think now my vote is to keep things the way they are. I think I was always leaning that way but yeah.

Yes, the important thing is that we all stay patient with each other and remember this is for fun, not for perfection or for the predominance of any one character.

The only problem I have with this is the fact that after so many replies it's impossible to read. And sometimes I have trouble reading what follows because the "thread" link doesn't want to work.

Okay guys, by majority vote it looks like we keep the journal format. Sorry, Roxy ^^; I have read your comment and understand your concerns. But I have to be fair so ^^; yeah.
